mini|desno|200px|Statua Gilgameša u krugu Univerziteta u Sidneju Gilgameš (akadski znakovi: 𒄑𒂆𒈦 [𒄑𒂆𒈦) bio je heroj u drevnoj mezopotamskoj mitologiji. Kao peti kralj Uruka, iz prve dinastije Uruka, sin boga Lugalbanda, vladao je oko 2700. p. n. e. Također je i centralni lik u Epu o Gilgamešu, u kojem stoji da mu je majka bila Rišat (ili Rišat Ninlil), svećenica boginje Ninsun, žene Lugalbandove. U tom djelu Gilgameš je opisan kao dvije trećine bog, a jednu trećinu čovjek.
Za Gilgameša se vjeruje da je živio izuzetno dug život (Sumerska lista kraljeva bilježi dužinu njegove vladavine na 126 godina) i da je posjedovao nadljudsku snagu. Historijski dokazi za postojanje Gilgameša nalaze se u natpisima na glinenim pločicama koje mu daju u zaslugu da je izgradio velike zidove oko grada Uruka (današnji grad Warka, Irak). U priči zapisanoj na glinenim pločama Gilgameš je prvi put pisao o njegovim velikim djelima i njegovoj potrazi za smislom zivota.
