Oreonectes platycephalus és una espècie de peix de la família dels balitòrids i de l'ordre dels cipriniformes.The Taxonomicon
Morfologia Cos amb escates molt petites a excepció del cap. Els mascles poden assolir 10 cm de longitud total. Nombre de vèrtebres: 35-36. 10 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 8 a l'anal. Cap pla al dors. Presència d'ulls. L'origen de l'aleta dorsal es troba darrere de l'origen de la pelviana. Aleta caudal arrodonida.
