New carnivorous dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of NW Patagonia and the evolution of abelisaurid theropods. Naturwissenschaften. 96 (3): 409–414.https://www.dinochecker.com/dinosaurfaqs/what-is-brachyrostra

Charakteristika

Jednalo se ceratosaurní teropody s charakteristicky krátkou a vysokou (ze stran zploštělou) lebkou, silně redukovanými předními končetinami a výraznou ornamentací hlavy (v podobě keratinových rohů a jiných výběžků).Delcourt, R. Cretaceous Research. 61: 209–219. doi: 10.1016/j.cretres.2015.12.018 Pravděpodobně se dokázali velmi rychle pohybovat a maximální rychlost běhu je například u rodu Carnotaurus odhadována na 48 až 56 km/h.Persons, W. S.; Currie, P. J. (2011). Farke, A. A. (ed.). Dinosaur Speed Demon: The caudal musculature of Carnotaurus sastrei and implications for the evolution of South American abelisaurids. PLOS ONE. 6 (10): e25763.

Abelisauridi byli spíše teropodi střední velikosti, někteří z nich přesto dosahovali značných rozměrů, například rod Pycnonemosaurus mohl dosáhnout délky až kolem 9 metrů a hmotnosti přibližně 2000 kg. Průměrná délka zástupců této čeledi činila přibližně 7,1 (±2,1) metru. Jednalo se tedy obvykle o středně velké až větší teropodní dinosaury.Grillo, O. N.; Delcourt, R. (2017). Allometry and body length of abelisauroid theropods: Pycnonemosaurus nevesi is the new king. Cretaceous Research.
