Le (CFI) est une association à but non lucratif du domaine de l'éducation qui s'est donné pour mission d'encourager les enquêtes scientifiques objectives sur le paranormal, les médecines alternatives, la religion et la société. Cette ONG est issue d'une fusion entre le Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (fondé en 1976) et le Council for Secular Humanism, se présente comme faisant la promotion de la science, de la raison, et de la liberté d'enquêter sur tous les sujets pouvant intéresser l'être humain.
Histoire Le Center for Inquiry est fondé en 1991 par le philosophe et auteur athée Paul Kurtz.. Il réunit deux organisations : le Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (fondé par Kurtz en 1976) et le Council for Secular Humanism (fondé par Kurtz en 1980)... Le Center for Inquiry Inc est enregistré comme organisation à but non lucratif exonérée d’impôts en avril 2001..
Paul Kurtz dirige l’organisation pendant trente ans. En 2009, Kurtz déclare avoir été évincé du CFI à la suite d’un conflit avec Ronald A. Lindsay, un avocat d’entreprise engagé comme directeur général en 2008..
Robyn Blumner succède à Lindsay comme directrice générale en janvier 2016 lorsque le CFI annonce sa fusion avec la Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science.....
Prix Richard-Dawkins Le prix Richard-Dawkins est une récompense annuelle (antérieurement décernée par l'Atheist Alliance of America. (aujourd'hui Alliance internationale athée) jusqu'en , où le prix a été déplacé au Center for Inquiry. Son critère officiel d'obtention s'énonce ainsi :
