Nevének eredete
A Silverstoneia nem nevét Philip Arthur Silverstone-Sopkin amerikai herpetológus és botanikus tiszteletére kapta.Grant, Frost, Caldwell, Gagliardo, Haddad, Kok, Means, Noonan, Schargel & Wheeler, 2006 : Phylogenetic systematics of dart-poison frogs and their relatives (Amphibia: Athesphatanura: Dendrobatidae). Előfordulásuk
A nembe tartozó fajok Costa Ricától Kolumbia délnyugati területeiig, 1600 m-es tengerszint alatti magasságon honosak.
