L'Atlantic Cup è un trofeo calcistico conteso annualmente tra il DC United e i New York Red Bulls e prende il nome dalla vicinanza di entrambe le città in cui le franchigie hanno sede, Washington e New York, all'Oceano Atlantico. È una delle rivalità più accese della Major League Soccer nonché l'unica che ha avuto luogo ininterrottamente dalla creazione della lega.
Formula Il trofeo viene assegnato alla squadra che ha ottenuto più punti negli scontri diretti durante la stagione regolare di MLS. In caso di pareggio nella serie, la coppa va alla squadra che ha segnato più reti negli scontri diretti stagionali e, in caso di ulteriore parità, a chi ha marcato il maggior numero di gol in trasferta. Qualora anche in questo caso vi sia una situazione di equilibrio, il trofeo viene mantenuto dall'ultimo vincitore. Fino all'edizione del 2001, oltre ai classici 3 punti per vittoria e 0 per sconfitta, in caso di parità dopo 90 minuti, si aggiungeva 1 ulteriore punto alla squadra vincitrice dello spareggio tramite shootout.
