La 46ª edizione dei Grammy Award si è svolta l'8 febbraio 2004 allo Staples Center di Los Angeles. La cerimonia è stata trasmessa in diretta televisiva negli Stati Uniti dall'emittente CBS.
Gli artisti con più candidature sono stati Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams e il gruppo OutKast con sei ciascuno. Beyoncé è risultata essere l'artista più premiata della cerimonia con cinque riconoscimenti per l'album Dangerously in Love e il singolo Crazy in Love, divenendo la quarta artista donna a detenere tale record nella storia della cerimonia. Il gruppo Outkast ha ottenuto tre riconoscimenti, tra cui all'album dell'anno per Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. La rock band Evanescence ha ottenuto il premio al miglior artista esordiente.
