S-a căsătorit cu Violette Wilson, fiica lui Jackson Stitt Wilson, un ministru metodist și primarul socialist din Berkeley, California. Sora sa a fost actrița Viola Barry. A avut trei copii Pichel Wilson, Julian Irving și Marlowe Agnew.
