Moštvo je nastalo novembra 2005, ko je avstrijsko podjetje Red Bull od avstralskega poslovneža Paula Stoddarta kupilo moštvo Minardi in sedež tega moštva v italijanskem mestu Faenza. Scuderia Toro Rosso je bila drugo moštvo Formule 1 v lasti podjetja Red Bull, ki je konec leta 2004 odkupilo moštvo Jaguar Racing in ga pred sezono 2005 preimenovalo v Red Bull Racing. Do novembra 2008 je bila Scuderia Toro Rosso v 50-odstotni lasti Red Bulla in 50-odstotni lasti nekdanjega avstrijskega dirkača Gerharda Bergerja, ki je potem svoj delež prodal nazaj Red Bullu. V italijanščini toro rosso pomeni 'rdeči bik', enako kot red bull v angleščini.
Scuderia Toro Rosso je debitirala v sezoni 2006, ko je moštvo doseglo tudi prvo točko za osmo mesto Vitantonia Liuzzija na Veliki nagradi ZDA. Edino zmago je za moštvo dosegel Sebastian Vettel na dirki za .
Pred sezono 2020 so pri Red Bullu moštvo preimenovali v Scuderia AlphaTauri.
