La stagione 2009 dell'International Formula Masters fu la quinta della serie, la terza con la denominazione di International Formula Master. La stagione consiste in 8 weekend, con due gare ciascuno. È iniziata il 16 maggio presso il circuito francese di Pau e terminata il 20 settembre a Imola. Il campionato è di supporto alla stagione del World Touring Car Championship per tutte le gare europee, tranne che per l'appuntamento del Portogallo, e anche alla Formula 1 nel Gran Premio d'Ungheria e in quello del Belgio. Fabio Leimer ha fatto suo il titolo correndo per la Jenzer Motorsport, vincendo la sua settima gara alla Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

Come nelle passate edizioni i primi arrivati in classifica hanno ottenuto come premio quello di poter testare delle vetture di categorie più importanti.
Come vincitore assoluto Fabio Leimer ha testato una vettura della GP2 Series del team francese DAMS, mentre, assieme a Leimer, Sergey Afanasyev e Josef Král hanno guadagnato la possibilità di utilizzare il simulatore di F1 della Red Bull Racing per un giorno.
Altri test sono stati confermati con il team dell'Indy Lights Sam Schmidt Motorsports e con la Chevrolet Cruze used utilizzata nel World Touring Car Championship.
