Življenjepis Andrea de Cesaris je v svoji štirinajst letni karieri (med sezonama in ) zamenjal kar deset moštev, njegova moštva so bila Alfa Romeo, McLaren, Ligier, Minardi, Brabham, Rial, Scuderia Italia, Jordan, Tyrrell in Sauber. Svoj prvi večji uspeh je dosegel v sezoni 1982 s tretjim mestom na Veliki nagradi Monaka s Alfo Romeo, s katero je sezono kasneje dosegel še dve drugi mesti na Velikih nagradah Nemčije in Južne Afrike. Naslednje stopničke je dočakal šele v sezoni 1987 z Brabhamom na Veliki nagradi Belgije, dve sezoni kasneje je dosegel še zadnji večji uspeh s tretjim mestom na Veliki nagradi Kanade s Scuderio Italio, po sezoni 1994 pa se je upokojil. Znan je tudi kot dirkač z največ dirkami brez zmage - 208, ter po seriji nesreč na začetku kariere. Oktobra 2014 je star 55 let umrl v prometni nesreči z motorjem.
