Подібно до соціології емоцій або антропології емоцій, історія емоцій базується на припущенні, що не лише вираження почуттів, але й самі почуття засвоюються. Культура та історія змінюються, а також почуття та їхнє вираження. Соціальна значимість і сила емоцій є історично та культурно змінними.
